Rich and I had a little time out last week, we went up to Shropshire to see ours Mums.
We had a really good week, although I must say I am heartily sick of bloody snow now, just stop ok...and give us our spring already!!
I was full of good intentions of taking lots of nice pics of good old Shropshire but everything was either muddy, gray, windy as hell or snowing so I didn't bother. The only day I took my lovely new camera out(That Rich brought me for xmas. Thanks Lovely!) was the Tuesday which was the nicest day of the week. I made Richard take me out for a little culture and the possibility of learning stuff! We when to Blists Hill Victorian Town and it was BRILLIANT!!
Blists Hill is a Victorian Town, all the staff around the place are in full costume, there are shops you can go in a buy goods, a pub, fish and chip shop (ooh my god the chips are good!), chemists, bakery, printers everything, there's even a bank where you can change your money so you can shop with old currency (which totally confused me!).
Blists Hill is situated in Ironbridge which is just a few miles from Shrewsbury where I grew up, consequently my school did regular visits here whenever possible (can you image 60 kids running round here annoying the staff and trying to push each other in the canal!)
Neither Rich or I have been since we left school so fancied seeing it again after 15 years and I'm glad to say it didn't disappoint.
The whole place is so beautifully kept, the buildings are amazing and the stuff in the shops (most of it props which sadly you can't buy other wise I would have spent a fortune!) are incredible and the staff, most of which are crafts people themselves are obviously really passionate about what their doing.
You can get a real feel for what life was like back then, right down to the horse and cart going up the street and the pigs and chicken every households or business seem to have kept (wish I had a pig sty like this!)
Rich and I discussed it and decided that had we been Victorians this is the house we would have liked to live it...
although realistically and knowing me and Rich it would have been more like to have been this one...
...the Squatters Cottage!
All in all a great day out, if you find yourself in Shropshire GO!
